About STUDIO B

Created in January 2021, STUDIO B is an inclusive adult ballet school that aims to eliminate the barriers of age, gender and size. This ballet academy is a family like no other, with a community of over 200 dancers aged 18+ with all sorts of backgrounds and experiences, living in different parts of the globe. There is a place for everyone at STUDIO B: our students prove every day that ballet training can be started at any stage of life. Most of the group ballet and conditioning classes are taught online, which allows you to take classes from anywhere in the world and fit lessons within your busy schedule without needing to leave your house. We also offer regular workshops and masterclasses both online and in person (London, Lisboa, Porto). STUDIO B is a certified Royal Academy of Dance school, allowing students to be proposed as RAD exam candidates.

Students’ voices

“The only time I had tried ballet, I was six years old and hated every second of that class; so when Inês started giving dance classes online and I decided to try one, I was honestly just expecting to dislike it as much. Instead, with every movement and every exercise, I started having so much fun! Inês is a very patient teacher especially if you started from a zero-coordination body like mine! She never fails to acknowledge her students’ progress whilst correcting us when we make mistakes, allowing us to progress in an organic and healthy way in our dance exploration. Starting to practice ballet as an adult sounds so hard, but trust me when I say this woman knows exactly what she’s doing, and she has made it the most exciting journey for me!”

— Elena

“Being a (not very young) male doing ballet, I always get a bit nervous before lessons. However, within seconds, I wonder why, as I'm completely absorbed dancing ballet with Miss Inês. She is so friendly and accepting that doing ballet seems completely normal for a guy, which it is! Miss Inês creates a fun atmosphere in class and makes me feel that I am progressing, which is really important (despite my complete lack of flexibility and rhythm), whilst giving corrections. Each lesson builds on the last so I can definitely see and feel myself improving. For me, each lesson is a form of escapism with so much to focus on: the music, remembering the moves, positions of feet, hands and head, among so many other things. The only negative part is how quickly the hour passes, so much so that we have recently extended our lessons’ time!”

— Anthony

“I hadn’t danced ballet since I was little, never had the confidence to push myself to new levels. And when this amazing opportunity came, I had to take it. When you’re an adult in ballet, beginner or starting all over again after years of stopping, not many teachers will take you or even put their faith in you. We begin thinking that maybe we are too late to dance, that we’re not worth the time. But Inês helps us believe in ourselves because she believes we can do it. She’s patient, kind and mindful of our limits, and at the same time pushes us to try to go the distance. In six months I evolved in ways I thought I never could, physically and mentally. Ballet has helped me cope with my stress, boosted my confidence and improved my posture. I couldn’t have chosen a better ballet school and teacher. Thank you so much Miss Inês, and ballet friends!”

— Teresa

“When I found out about Studio B, I was very curious about it. Then I saw that there were ballet classes for Beginners as well, I was very happy to see that and that there was no experience needed, which gave me hope that I could actually learn ballet, something I always wanted. My experience with Miss Inês's classes is very positive. The classes are very nice, fun and she has patience with us. Also, the Studio B community is a very welcoming one and full of great people. I'm very happy to be part of Studio B Ballet Academy and when I can't attend a class, I really miss it and my day isn't the same.”

— Sofia

“Inês is a brilliant ballet teacher. She has a light and friendly teaching style, amazingly mixed with focus and rigour. Inês' classes are dynamic, energetic and engaging. There is never a dull moment! Every class is different and challenging, which creates a great learning environment. Ah, and her music selection is fabulous!”

— Joana

“Since I has very little, I had the wish to dance Ballet, but I did not have the courage to ask my parents to do it. After becoming independent at 18 years old, I started looking for dance schools with group classes in times that were compatible with my work schedule. It was a search with little success, so I started having private ballet lessons. I danced for 4 years, including pointe work, but I cannot say I was always happy in class. There were ups and downs, even when I decided to change schools. In both schools, I did not feel like there was a serious approach to adult ballet. The classes were not as focused as the children’s ones. I did not present myself there as a non-binary person because I did not feel comfortable doing so. I was always afraid to be mocked. Last year I found Miss Inês’ STUDIO B project and I exposed my gender to her from the very beginning. She was very inclusive and I felt safe to practice ballet regardless of my gender, age or body shape. There is still a struggle to be a non-binary ballet dancer, but ballet is a part of me now and I carry on fighting for it.”

— Matias

Ballet classes with Miss Inês are absolutely amazing. She goes through the exercises with us, making sure to explain not only the main concepts but also interesting details. Miss Inês also offers individual feedback, so we can each improve our movements and develop technique. Studio B provides a great platform for adult ballet that is for everyone while integrating us in an incredible community where we get to share our experiences with each other and discuss all things ballet!”

— Sara

“Having online ballet classes for beginners as an adult felt like a mission impossible. With Studio B it is a dream come true! I can see my body improving week after week. It always brings a smile to my face when the class ends and all of my beautiful colleagues really form the most amazing community.”

— Lúcia

“Studio B is the absolute best! I had never done ballet in my life and just after one class, I became addicted!!! Class days quickly became my favourite moments of the week. I achieved things I thought I would never be able to make! Not the frappés though… Yet! Thank you Miss Inês for making the happiest and wholesome ballet classes! We’re all very happy ballerinas!”

— Madalena

“In the last 10 years, I have searched everywhere for Ballet classes for adults at a price I could pay. Because I could not find any, I ended up trying to compensate for the lack of physical exercise with other activities. What a mistake! Luckily I found Inês. Since then, I got the opportunity to be 14 years old again and to feel my body stronger, more agile and elegant. The community that Inês created is a bonus - my colleagues make me feel like anything is possible which, nowadays, is the most incredible feeling. Thank you.”

— Maria

"I'd been wanting to try ballet for years but I was always afraid that I was too old to start and that I would not be good enough... So I did jazz for a long time and dipped my toe in contemporary but never came close to ballet, although it was what I really love to try. Fast forward to a few months ago when I came across Studio B on Instagram, followed the page for a while until finally, I sent a message to enrol myself in the beginners class! Miss Inês was lovely from the start and although the class was online, I was still nervous in my first class... All of the nervousness disappeared along with the class, Miss Inês is super sweet and the kindest teacher I have ever had and gives great feedback for us to improve our form. All of the students are also lovely. I finally found a place where I'm just not afraid to try ballet but also feel comfortable and happy! Thank you Miss Inês to create this amazing community that Studio B is."

“I joined Ines’s classes in February as a way to prevent an old injury on my shoulder. For 2 months I did only conditioning lessons, PBT and stretching, and Saturday morning easily became my favourite time of the week. By June I was doing the conditioning lessons, ballet beginners and pointe preparation and, sadly for me, I couldn’t do anything else. I join these lessons with the only purpose of getting fitter and recovering some muscle strength, I never thought I would end up totally falling in love with ballet. As a professional classical musician, I love that I can perform another art form and at the same time feel I am improving my health and overall body condition. About our lovely teacher, Inês, I can only say how wonderful of a teacher (and mostly a wonderful person!) she is. She has supersonic eyes (even when she’s doing the exercises with us she manages to see my floppy arms in 2nd position), is a very stress-free teacher and is able to share with us her love and passion for ballet. I believe I can be a ballerina, no matter if I only started in February because it makes me so happy.”

— Beatriz

“In STUDIO B I found the pleasure of dancing without shame, without competition, with a very kind and sweet teacher who makes us all very powerful! It is so good to make part of this.”

— Elsa

“The classes with Inês at Studio B were able to bring me back to a feeling I missed for a long time. Inês was able to motivate me and give me the confidence with ballet that I thought I lost after not practising for 20 years! Besides practising an exercise it’s also something that brings me so much joy after a long day at work I’m incredibly thankful for Studio B.”

— Camila

“STUDIO B appeared in my life at the right time. After having practised ballet for many years as a child, I ended up giving up for personal reasons and rediscovered here, as an adult, the passion for pointe and the classical movement. More than a class, it's a family moment, a weekly meeting around the same love! Thank you inês, for bringing back a child's dream!”

— Maria

“Since I was a little girl I always wanted to do ballet, I always liked to see the rigidity of the art and the dancers' commitment to it. However, I never had the confidence to join. But was the commitment of Miss Inês that made me fall in love with Studio B, the commitment and passion she has for dance and for teaching us. After many years of taking refuge in my fears, I saw Studio B and the affection that the dancers spoke about the studio, so I decided to try it and I also ended up falling in love and feeling comfortable in this wonderful family. In addition to becoming a dancer with the help of Miss Inês, I'm also improving my confidence and greater self thanks to her.”
